About

At Alley Connoisseur, we are captivated by the unvisited, unnamed, and uninhabited empty areas that are tucked between the frequently traversed parts of the urban landscape. This is a guide to these spaces. We believe that alleys remain integral to improving ultra-local transportation and community building, and decreasing the environmental footprint of high-density urban areas. Additionally, similar to tree-ring dating, alleys offer a historical snapshot of the city since neighborhoods transform over time and the alleys remain largely unchanged. Many retain the original material that they were constructed with, even though the buildings surrounding them are continuously transformed or torn down and erected anew. Most importantly, Alley Connoisseur is about helping readers see their surroundings through a new lens.

If you’re a member of the Un-Space Exploration Committee or a fellow urban explorer, hit us up with an email. We’re looking for hot tips on alley locations, photos, artwork, and salacious correspondence written by John Cheever. Also, check out our Facebook page under the “contact” tab for weekly alley updates.
